Jogging Through Space

Article Review by: Raithby Maitland

Original Author: Mary Morgan-McKnight
Jogging Through Space is the story of one woman's journey through recovery. Mary Morgan-McKnight was diagnosed with a brain
tumour in 1981. Her story begins with the headache that started it all. We journey with her as she experiences the process of a medical investigation and subsequent diagnosis. Her brain surgery led to debilitating facial paralysis, nausea, chronic migraine headaches and partial deafness. Ms. Morgan-McKnight has been able to overcome her side-effects through focused pathways to renewal. Every new pathway begins with a positive affirmation, a positive outlook juxtaposed by her pain and agony articulated in the journal entries she made along her road to recovery. She shares 60 pathways she developed for herself through reading and consultation with various practitioners. Her writing style is familiar and her voice is that of a friend guiding you through a difficult journey. Her “slow flow” exercises are ideal for anyone recovering from a traumatic injury, debilitating surgery or dealing with chronic pain.
In addition to her advice for people recovering from such traumatic events or dealing with such illnesses, Ms. Morgan-McKnight also touches on her near-death experience and the power of dreams.
When Ms. Morgan-McKnight was in surgery, she experienced what many would call a near-death experience. She heard the voices of long-dead relatives and she saw a beautiful light. But in the end, she was drawn back to earth by the love of her family there.
The title Jogging Through Space refers to a powerful dream she had the day before she started walking again. She believes it was that dream that gave her the will to walk.
It is these Personal stories that make Jogging Through Space such an amazing read. Mary Morgan-McKnight acknowledges that everyone’s journey is different, but she hopes she can give her reader some sage advice and help her reader through the most difficult journey they will ever take.
