"Your babys isn´t yours" describes a finnishfamilys weekday in 1970.
The family is young: father, mother and two children, politically very
active and they live as they think about things. In the book the one
who writes it is the daughter Nelli who is remembering the time when
the children went to pioneers, partisipated with their parents to
peacemarch and sang song that praised communism. Her parents idealised
Lenin, took part to the Chileans suffer and commersed the Contact. The
whole world was slitted to two; there were good people, communists,
people who helped downtrodden in the world, and then there were the
scary bourgeois, who took from the poor and forced the children to work
in to a factory.
In passing she tells about mother Anna´s own parents, granmother and
granfather. The granparents represantatives the evel bourgeois, who
takes with money everything they wanted. Not thinking all the suffering
and sacrifices, that poor people had to made for them. Visiting
granmother were to mother difficult, she was always nearly to break,
and then the visit was over and the whole family marched out with
mother leading.
Little Nelli describes the nice moments with her father and
conversations, where they touhgt about the "scary- stuff". "Like atomic
war", would Nelli say. Nelli describes also plays with brother Juri,
how they were cosmonauts from space and how they would wave to their
parents, and how proud they would then be. Nelli also describes how
Juri awakes to understand how different their family is. Juri is
embarresed by their commando characteristic and he pulls away to his
own friendcircles. Younger of the children, Nelli, stays and fights for
communism, but there are other changes in the family too. Nellis own
independense with it´s trying, fathers leaving, mothers lonelyness and
then the new father. All familymembers are in the book with their
adventures on weirdness. Book describes the life off this family and
the world very realistic and juicy: marches and partys together with
friends, all the cheap redvine and the red touhgt memories off the
time, when everything was fine and safe in little-Nelli´s life. Then it
was clear that coca-cola and barbie´s were for bad, because they came
from America. And orange´s that came from Israeli, you had to boycott
them - because of the touhgt. Nelli is already an young lady when she
writes the book, lady who lives her own life. Tought everybody has
turned away, stands Nelli still feel the old, good Soviet Union´s roots
inside of her. The one who lived during this period, can this awake
memories and feelings, that they never knew to extant.
