Ice Cream

Book Review   by:EmilyPatience     Original Author: Helen Dunmore

As a reader, I had not the habit of setting authors and books as favorite. Although there are a few, yet, it shall only depend upon the readers’ sense of taste and style of the stories he likes. One of the British authors whom I had yet to do research or study for her books and life story, but still amazed at one of her works. Helen Dunmore, a British poet, novelist, and children’s writer, who was educated at the University of York, had been able to catch my attention on one of her short stories books. “Ice Cream” is a short stories collection by this wonderful author. The short stories contained were indeed smooth as the title had set. It flowed without a break and each story brought readers into the smooth images of life, death, happiness and sorrow. Every description of the stories could be as detail as a mind had set. At the same time, it leaves you thinking, and letting your soul to crave for more. The smooth surface of Dunmore’s handwrite had brought her readers into her mind, heart and soul.
Just by reading this one book of hers, I had been craving to read more of her works. I paid for a good 10 Malaysia Ringgit for a book to tame my boredom in a 3 hours flight to home. I am an unpublished writer, yet someday, I’ll achieve my dream. To buy a book, for me, is like buying a diamond. It was hard for me to afford, yet, finding this book was a miracle, and it had truly been my treasure. This is the first book which had helped me to find my style of writing. Also, it had helped me to build stories of my own. One of the short stories, ‘Ice Cream’, which was the same title for the book cover, had inspired me to write a short story, entitled, ‘Frozen Delight’. Do read this book, get a copy of this. A promise kept for a book by British author.
