THE KITE RUNNER ‘Unforgettable…Extraordinary,It is so powerful that for a long time after,everything I read seemed bland’ OR ‘shattering….devastating and inspiring’. OR ‘Rich in warmth and humour…full of haunting images…Vivid and engaging’ OR ‘Devastating,masterful and painful honest story’ These are all praises made by major literary critics of this era about the novel-The Kite Runner ,written by Khaled Hosseini,todays must read novel.For last two years,the novel have been occupied and headed the list of Bestseller Fiction. It is a story of a twelve-year-old boy,namely Amir and his close friend Hasan.In 1970,Russian troops invaded Afganistan,many natives fled from Afganistan and immigrated in other countries. Amir’s family was one of them.They migrated to America,but their family couldn’t adjust in foreign land.Rootlessness marred their selfhood.And this is the story of their restlessness and mental anxiety. The author,Hossaini was born in Afganistan and later on his family received political asylum in the U.S.A. By profession he is doctor,but his books witnessed that he is master penman. The hero, Amir always eager to do some extro-ordinary and wants to impress his father.He discussed with his loyal friend Hasan.
With the help of Hasan,Amir decided to win the local kite-fighting tournament .But on the same day of tournament,a mishappening changes their life.Emotionally ,this incidence affects on their mentality.Though Amir migrated to America and settled there,but mentally he could not adjust with new situations. This and more………is the plot of this novel. Though it is the first novel of Hosseini,but he really master teller .His ability to reach the core of experiences is stunning.His language is honest to his characters.Both Amir is the main characters of the novel,but his friend Hasan catch the heart of readers.After a long time such magnificent novel arrived .Every line is aptful and worthy to carry on its story. Hossaini inherits greatness of modern writers,because his second novel,’A Thousand Splendid Suns’ has already become bestseller one. Completing the book, every reader must express his opinion as-‘WOW ,WHAT A NOVEL !’ That is real success of The Kite Runner.
