Surfer Girl

Book Review   by:Pietro     Original Author: Penelope Dyan
ª

Teenage Summer is searching for her legacy.  Her mother is a writer and her mother's writing is her legacy for Summer, but Summer wants a legacy of her own.  Summer is an ordinary girl with an extraordinary life.  She's an open water swimmer who happens to be a surfer and she has a big dream for her life that the author, Penelope Dyan, describes as too big to even imagine.  Summer is a teenage girl and like all teenage girls has a boyfriend, Philip.  At times Summer thinks Philip is just too good to be true.  (From the reader's perspective Philip is the perfect boyfriend.)  But nobody is perfect.  Or are they?  This is a book written for teens that even adults love to read.  The action, the interaction between the characters and the believability of the characters leave the reader longing for more.  This book is recognized by the Girls Voices In Literature Database, Miami University, Florida, and the winner of several book awards (including honorable mention at the DIY Book Festival and the London Book Festival) and it is easy to see why!  This is a book with a positive message and an ecological purpose that leaves the reader longing for more.  And since this is the first book in a series of books (The Surfer Girl Book Series by Penelope Dyan) that is just fine with this reader!
