High School Musical 2 is a wonderful book adapted by N.B. Grace from the movie ‘High School Musical 2’.
This book begins from the last working day of East High. The Wildcats were pretending to be listening to Ms Darbus - who was ribitting about her fun less summers - while waiting for the bell to ring. And then the bell rang and announced their freedom but if the wildcats were thinking the summer was going to be summer camp, they were in for a surprise.
That evening, Troy got a call from Mr. Thomas Fulton, the manager of Lava Springs Club, offering him job there. Troy agreed to do the job if Gabriella and rest of the wildcats could do it. So he, Gabriella and other wildcats headed for the country club. But that wasn’t all. Their obstruction of the summer was already at the club. Sharpay and Ryan Evans were the children of Mr. Evans, the founder of the club. Mr. Fulton, the manager of the club, had his life overruled by Sharpay.
Sharpay was sitting near the pool with her girlfriends and Ryan when Troy came in along with the wildcats and waved to Gabriella who was looking marvelous in a swimsuit. Sharpay had ordered Fulton to call Troy, offering him a job but rest of the wildcats! That was it.
After shouting at Fulton for several minutes, she found out that Troy was persistent on the wildcats doing the job too. She caught up with her mum; she found out that neither Fulton nor Mrs. Evans was going to turn out the other wildcats. She had to herself make them quit.
Sharpay was keeping a close watch on the wildcats so it became difficult for Troy and Gabriella to meet each other (they were in love with each other). Twice they tried to have a meal together and twice they were caught by Mr. Fulton. Anyway, they didn’t mind it. The wildcats sang together and had fun after their shift was over and then decided to take part in the talent show. But that wasn’t so easy. Sharpay came to know about that and asked her Dad to present the talented Troy with scholarships and admission in college for his future. Her Dad talked to the school board and they decided to present him a wonderful future. Everything was happening as Sharpay had planned. Troy got attracted by his present. Slowly and gradually he was, unknowingly, coming in Sharpay’s grip. Soon Sharpay was ruling his life. She had made Troy promise her he’d sing with her in the Talent Show.
The wildcats had realized what Sharpay was up to. They tried to point that out to Troy but he wouldn’t understand. Soon Chad, Troy’s best friend, and Troy had a fight over this. Troy started rehearsing with Sharpay. Ryan, after realizing that he was no longer a part of Sharpay’s show, joined the wildcats and they started practicing for the show. But one day, Taylor was given a few memos to be handed over to the wildcats. The memos said that no employ was to take part in the show. They all guessed that it must be Sharpay’s idea. Gabriella had a fight with Sharpay and tried to make Troy realize what he had done. She left the club thinking that it was no good hoping to mend up the messed up summer. Troy too realized that he had messed up everything. On taking his Dad’s opinion, the next day, he resigned from his honorary employee designation and started work in the kitchen. He made it up with Chad and was told to sing with Sharpay again (he didn’t have to sing with her any longer as he was an employee). He agreed to sing with her only if the wildcats could do the show. She was hesitant but agreed in order to save the show. She realized her mistake and they became friends. Chad and Taylor went to Gabriella’s home to bring her so that she could sing with Troy (the wildcats had lied to Troy that Sharpay had switched the songs but had not told Sharpay about the switch and she didn’t know that new song).
Troy started singing and was soon joined by Gabriella. That was from where they had started, singing only for each other. Soon the wildcats joined in and the whole hall went berserk in celebration. Sharpay became friends with them and they all spent the rest of the summer happily with each other. This was the perfect end to a perfect summer!
