He now offers her a six-week job to look after his four year old child Amy until a proper Nanny takes over. Amy’s mother has died in a car accident. Amy goes to the big sea-side house of Dr. Slade which is newly done by a lovely looking Miss Kaye, who, as Marie learns later, is Dr. Slade’s fiancée. Marie and Amy take up to each other. But strangely, Amy doesn’t let Marie tuck her in. She says her Mummy would do it. Marie finds this strange. She soon learns that indeed Amy is being tucked in by her dead mother Lily. Strange things begin to happen. Marie’s mobile phone begins to behave strangely. She is unable to contact her Gran or send messages from inside the house. But surprisingly outside, in the open, the phone works normally. There are other strange happenings, too. Like Amy using her Mummy’s phone and Marie hearing strange messages through it. On her own phone also she gets weird messages. Amy’s mother Lily wants her to go away. One night, when Marie is down in the kitchen, Amy’s screams are heard. Her bed sheet and toys are ripped cruelly. Dr. Slade sends away Marie saying that she is not yet cured and he cannot allow her to remain with the child. A sad Marie returns to her Gran. Later, a phone from Dr.Slade’s Housekeeper informs her that another toy was found ripped open. Marie knows it is done by Lily’s ghost.
