Vampire academy is school for Morois and Dhampirs. Moroi are given administrative education, while Dhampirs are given combat training to protect Moroi and fight Strigoi. Strigoi are the undead vampires. Moroi are the vampires with the soul who also have special magical abilities. Lissa Dragomir is a royal Moroi, the Dragomir family being one of the twelve royal families. But, unfortunately Lissa is the last Dragomir. Rose Hathway is a dhampir, whose mother is one of the awesomest dhampir and Rose has no idea who her father is. Lissa is a spirit user, her magic is spirit. She can heal wounds, and even bring back dead. Lissa and her family and Rose had been in a car accident, where Lissa lost her parents and brother, but she saved Rose by using her power. This forged a bond between them. Rose can get into Lissa's mind and experience things through her eyes. And she can even sense her feeling. They run away from the academy. The academy tries to get them back by sending people to fetch them. But they all fail. Until, the tall, handsome and dangerous Dimitri takes up the job to bring them back. Its been two years since Rose and Lissa ran away from the academy, so they have a lot to catch up to. Dimitri is assigned to be Rose's instructor, to cover the backlog in her training. They come closer over the time. Lissa bonds with a guy, Christain, who is famous for bad reasons. Lissa discovers her spirit magic. Her evil Uncle who suffers from some rare incurable disease, kidnaps her so that Lissa can be his personal healer. But this healing is too large. It will take a lot more from Lissa than just physical exhaustion. With each healing she loses a part of her soul. Rose uses the bond to locate Lissa. She and Dimitri along with some guardians from academy go in search of Lissa. After putting up a little fight Lissa is finally rescued. And her uncle is sent for punishment. Dimitri and Rose realize they are attracted to one another more than what a student-teacher should have. When Rose confronts Dimitri with her feelings, he explains to her how, in the future they both are going to be assigned to be Lissa's guardians and that if they keep thinking of each other when they should be protecting Lissa, it would be very dangerous for her. And so they decide to resist this attraction.
