'A Light In Zion' is a wonderful story about the establishment of Jews in Jerusalem. It is really what had happened years ago in Jerusalem and in it's neighbouring places (Palestine) before the formation of the nation, Israel. The book makes crystal clear the terrible conditions that the Jews had faced due to the resistance of the Muslims in Palestine, who were then supported by Syria and the other prominent Muslim countries. The novel starts with the siege of Jerusalem in eve of the passover 1948 by Muslims by controlling the only entry, a mountain passage, to the Jews' sector of the city. The passage can be controlled only by controlling the village in the top of the mountain, named Kastel. In order to capture it the Jews send a proxy army to hill valley while the mountain village was attacked with very few men. Afterwards supplies from Tel Aviv is brought to Jerusalem. Even though Kastel was attacked vigourously all were suppressed by few men with God's grace. Due to the refrain of the British from supporting the Jews, who did not even have a trained militia. So their army constituted of shopkeepers, farmers, university professors and those who do not have the experience of war. Even then they survived during the harsh circumstances. Palestinians tried different ways to counter the existence of the Jews by suicide bombings, mines, guerilla attacks, sieges and all other possible ways. Syria tried to supply arms and ammunition by ship through the Mediterranean sea to the Muslim jihadists in Palestine.During this time both the British and the jihadists were searching for freedom fighters of the Jews all over the land of Israel.
They did not give way to defeat but found out doors which were unlocked by GOD to escape to find victory out of nothing. The men led by David Meyer escapes from the hands of British forces present in Israel to Cyprus and from there to destroy the freighter carrying ammunition to Palestine, which is now closing in to the coast of a muslim strongpoint. With some people who joined David at different places on his way he heads to the Italian coast to accomplish his goal. David and his team of few men destroys the freighter by first forcing the ship to dock for a day in one of the Italian coast by alarming the authorities of a ship belonging to the Communists. Thinking that this is the ship they stops the ship, while David planted a bomb on the ship and destroyed it. By all means the Jewish quarter of Jerusalem was defended well till reinforcement arrived from Tel Aviv. The robust trust of the chosen people of GOD saved them at the most critical moments. With full trust in GOD, they used their meagre resources to their complete advantage. Even when they came face to face with death, they believed that GOD will save them through incredible miracles and it so happened. This book conveys us the message that “If GOD is with us who is against us”.
