The website reads… Many people aspire to the art of
creative writing as a means of self-expression, but few have the confidence
to be anything but closet writers. The reason for this is the myth that artists are born not made; that success happens overnight and not as a result of consistent focus, hard work and self discipline.
This is
certainly echoed in the Stephan Kings book entitled, “On writing, A Memoir of the Craft”. He takes us on a journey not only through his anecdotal account of his childhood, but through the craft of writing, from character transforming plots to imagery. The craft of writing is just that, it is a craft that can be learnt from practice as well as reading. King stresses the importance not only of reading to expand your vision, but to learn from other writer’s style.
The introduction package on the website aims to dispel the myth and mystery of the writing process, using tried and tested techniques, from homing in on the process of getting into
creative mode, to dialogue and creating believable scenes. The audio visual format is both relaxing and enriched with useful crafting techniques and hands on exercises. This introductory course is preceded by a FREE course, Open Day.
The Open Day course can be accessed by using the login: guest and password: guest. It is a wonderful start to getting into creative mode and preparing you to put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboards. Once you have logged in as a guest, look for Open Day under the Available Courses list then click on the link to start the course. This free lesson was inspiring and certainly a useful approach to getting me into a writing mood.
The Word Weavers ( http://www.thewordweavers.com) is a fantastic site for writers full of useful tools, one that is certainly worth trying.
