It's with plenty of
humour that Nicole De Buron depicts the worries and emotions of a depressed
woman. Every
reader can easily identify herself with the main character, appropriately named 'YOU'. The Man, Little Darling and Oldest Daughter complete this family portrait, so close to the reality of every one of us. The story begins when Giant Octopus - a metaphor for
depression - violently takes hold of YOU with its entourage of fatigue, anxiety and bulimia...It's then that inevitably the relations and the girlfriends go to her with their good advice, each as incoherent as the other's. Fortunately, Psy occasionally comforts her by listening warmly. In fact, everything seems to stem from the
day when one of YOU's oldest friends told her that she wasn't shaggable anymore. From then on, put into question, the fatally exaggerated self-criticism by a lost woman in her fifties. YOU therefore goes over all the tricks and secrets that could help her, which
allows the author to humorously play down the
difficult situations that everyone will encounter one day or another. Nevertheless, YOU sinks ever more deeply into depression, to the point of wanting to commit suicide after having argued with The Man, whom she believes has left for good. Luckily, The Man arrives in time and with Psy's help allows her to dispel her anxieties. After several bursts of laughter, the reader will finish reading with an irresistible urge to live life to the full. This book therefore deals with the difficult problem of depression with a humour that's just as harsh as it is wholesome.
