san fransisico
chronicleIt is interesting to note that San Francisco
Society, still pushes forward the
SAN FRANCISCO
CHRONICLE in a streamlined modernist way:
On the front we have the usual shots of exciting happenings:
The pages are crammed with Reviews and I note that columnists
create the picture of harmony between, say,
major world religions and secular
society! Reviews are justaposed thus:
Christians or Jews!
The whole gamut of opinion is explored and its nothing less than a miracle
to have a quick peek and dive for cover to your room to read in detail:
The whole ethos comes jumping off the pages as one is, obviously, a foreigner
in San Francisco, over the Christmas period: it takes a bit of
/getting used to/
I recall that I first encountered the SAN FRANCISCO
CHRONICLE in the 1970s
when resident in San Jose: it was seen, in those days, as /left wing/
/politically aware/ and /socially upfront/ with extreme views on culture and life in the
State of California!
What is the difference between the 1970s and 2005 - well!, the dialogue
has changed to meet modern trends in subject matter: the writers are the
children of the flower people, but in my case, the offspring of the Professional
Class: and there is something of the poet and writer even today in all of us:
An excellent read!
