ASTRADENI

Book Review by: Anonymous

Original Author: EYGENIA FAKINOY

|  would  like to call me Astradeni, not because this means '' the one who binds the stars.but, why this
name would remind me the tittle  of a novel ,that made  me feel happy and free, and gave me vivid details of the life.this <fairytale > takes place in Symi, , where the eleven-year-old heroine , until financial reasons oblige the family to move to Athens, grows up. Astradeni leaves behind a closeknit community, that stimulates her imagination, and a rich store of traditional values in which both religion and magic lore have their place,to addapt the hard conditions of city-life .Eygenia Fakinoy lets her tell her own story with winning charm and candour in a style that allows her sensitivity and the sparkle of her intelligence to shine through. For beneath the surface charm of a young girl’s narrative the reader is in fact witnessing a painful process of social change, the violence done to the sense of values of individuals experiencing an abrupt transition from a traditional agrarian culture to a competitive, industrialized society of consumers.
