Robert Neville is getting tired of the routine. Always
the same things to do, every single day. Checking the hothouse,
gathering the
garlic, making the stakes. Fixing the boards on his house. The house, got to
soundproof the house. And all the time, they are watching him, waiting for him.
Calling out for him to come
outside. For Robert Neville is the last human on
Earth but he has discovered that there are worse things than that. Like the
undead outside his house every night for example. And so with little else to
do, Robert finds solace in an old friend, whisky. But it doesn't dull the pain.
The pain of losing his wife Virginia and his daughter
Kathy to the plague, the pain of having to give his daughter to the authorities
so that they could burn her dead body. The pain of burying his wife only for
her to come back from the grave. And then there's Ben Cortman. Ben used to be
Robert's friend and they worked at the plant together, Ben would drive Robert
to work. But now that Ben is one of them, Robert would like nothing more
than to take a one foot stake and put it right through his chest.
It's nothing personal.
Robert spends his time listening to music, searching them out in the daytime
and staking as many of them as he can. And he studies them too, their weaknesses.
He's trying to understand them, trying to understand the plague, the
deaths and the reason for it all. Trying to understand the legends
behind vampire mythology. The crosses. The stakes, the fear of sunlight.
The need for blood? Where does it all come from? Little does Robert know that
there’s something else out there as well. Robert Neville, I am
legend.
