There are many continuations to Jane Austen's acclaimed
Pride and Prejudice out there, but this is book
one in the trilogy that would win Jane's own stamp of approval! Pamela Aidan uses quotes and events well known to fans of Austen's book. She also gives us insight into how Fitzwilliam Darcy spent his time outside of the familiar scenes. We learn about what Darcy liked to read, about his
clubs, and about his friends. Details about the happenings with George Wickham are given from the point of view of Georgiana and others. The
author lets us in on Darcy's innermost thoughts about Elizabeth Bennett and the world around him through among other things his letters to his sister Georgiana and conversations with his valet, Fletcher. Fletcher is a humorous addition to the cast of wonderful characters. Fans of the A&E adaptation will find it easy and enjoyable to picture Colin Firth/Fitzwilliam Darcy speaking the dialogue and having the experiences represented in this book.
An Assembly Such as This is subtitled
A Novel of Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman. There are pointers for book clubs and an interview with the author included.
