Rebecca

Book Review by: Sannen

Original Author: Daphne du Maurier
Rebecca: A moving love story

“Rebecca” is the most popular book by one of the best selling
authors of modern times, Daphne du Maurier. It is the story of an awful power holds by an unforgettable & a glamorous wife not only during her life but even after her death. Until the end it appears to be an adventurous story but in contrast it is a story of hope & love.
The novel is focused on Max de Winter’s shy, young second wife who marries Max after an accidental, brief acquaintance. Only after her marriage she realizes that she is neglected at “Manderley”, but the place is still governed by Rebecca, the first wife of Max even after her death. Also she does not receive love she expects from Max. Suddenly the whole story turns the other side after the arrival of a stranger Jack Favell, a cousin of Rebecca. Hereafter the story is filled with a sequence of events that are packed with suspicion & surprises.
This is a vivid portrait of torture, suspicion, jealousy, fears, love & accomplishments. Thus though “Rebecca” was originally came out in 1938, it explores most of the moral themes of all times.
This moving love story is able to touch every single reader on a very personal level. The author holds the unexpected climax until the latter chapters, so that nobody can put down reading the novel until the end. The unforgettable gallery of characters, a romance so breath taking, so haunting & suspense-packed whole story let “Rebecca” stands as a giant among modern novels.
Therefore, it is a book which must be read & re-read by everybody.
