Capitain Antunes and his wife (who were ranchers in Minas,Brazil) obligated their son Eugenio to become a
priest but he was deeply in love since his childwood by Margarida, a ranch''s employee daughter. The boy tries to abandon his career but his
parents didn''t alow it and made up a story about Margarida...They tell him she got married. Eugenio who was in Congonhas Seminar, believes in his parents and finally becomes a priest. One day, back to his old town he''s rushed to assist a
pacient. That pacient was Margarida, who got expelled from the ranch along with her mother. She tells the truth to Eugenio. Then Margarida, owner of a hot temper, drags Eugenio to a sea of sins. Then she dies and Eugenio looses his mind when while walking into the church to preforme his first mass he faces his lover''s corpse. In "The Seminarian" the author does what the specialistes usually call "
novel thesis": what he exposes is the misunderstanding of the religious celibacy (which goes aganist human nature). That''s a current question till today. Another important subject issued in this great novel is the
parenting control(in this case over parenting control) preformed by the character of Captain Antunes.
