A Short History of Tractors in Ukranian

Book Review by: sima321

Original Author: Marina Lewycka
This novel is based on real life situations and has taken one families situation and told it in a funny way. It is about
a Ukranian lady in her 30s who wants to get a British visa. A Ukranian British citizen in his 80s, whose wife passed away, has fallen in love with this new Ukranian lady, Valentina. He is highly interested in history and is a retired engineer.
He is willing to lose his house and his life for her, but Valentina is just a selfish and horrible lady who does not care about this poor old man. The old man has two grown-up daughters who are highly concerned over his situation.
Later in the story when Valentina''s previous husband arrives from Ukraine and it is proven to everyone that Valentina is just using the old man to get a visa, the two daughters persuade their father to divorce her. After many difficulties and courts, they finally grant him a divorce and Valentia returns to Ukraine with her 13 year-old son and her previous husband.
This novel is an amazing must read.
