The
story begins when a mummified body
discovered in the
cave of Cooke County, a wild south where law hardly reached. Dr. Bill Brockton, a forensic anthropologist was summoned to investigate the homicide. He was taken aback by the beautifully preserved corpse where the apodicere has formed a mask on the
victim which laid in the cave for thirty years. He discovered she was strangled and shockingly figured out she was also pregnant. The four month old baby was too preserved in her. In the meantime, the strange reaction by the
sheriff, Tom Kitsching was making the
investigation harder. Every approach to solve the murder case seemed to shadow by unknown mystery where Dr. Brockton himself almost killed in the line of investigation. Fortunately, helped by his police friend Art Bohanan, and a former Army Ranger, Lt. Thomas Jim O''Connor with Waylon, he managed to survive and live to tell the truth on behalf of his victim. The victim, was the cousin of Sheriff Kitsching and engaged to O''Connor before she disappeared from Cooke County. The history and hatred of the O''Connor and The Kitsching heavily clouded the whole investigation.
It is a wonderful story to
read and learn with a lot of anthropology knowledges while reading it. Combine with humour, laugh and humanity made it a must read for all crime story readers.
