There is no
revolution without critic, and absolute power ends up corrupting the ones that execute it with no limits. The
Animal Farm pretends to be a hard cirtitc on behalf of George Orwell (1903-1950) to the kidnapping of the bolshevik revolution and its accomplishments on the hands of Stalin,m but it goes further on. Eventough Orwell declared himself to be an anit-communist in many occassions, the satire exposed in this work can be easily applied to any other totalitarian regime, regardless if it is right or left wing. The
animals of the Minor Farm, led by the wise words of the old pig Major, prepare a revolution against the farmer (cartoonlike satire of Tsar Nicholas)m, who they accused of being abusive. The animals take advantage of a farmer´s drinking night and expell him from the farm. Immediately. the most intelligent
pigs emerge as the intelectual leaders of the rebellion. The animals paint in the walls of the barn the seven commandments of the animals, which they follow as their constitution. They meet in assemblies every sunday, which is declared as a day to rest, they stablish work organization and retirement, they compose their own song "Beast of England", they even have their own flag and they change the name of the farm from Minor farm to Animal farm. Within the pigs, two well defined different leading styles emerge: Snowball, with an excellent talent for oratory and great intelligence, and Napoleon,m more stuborn but ready for action and strenght. Snowball´s proposal of building a windmill is the cataliser for the differences with Napolean, who puts an end to the matter using force and ends up expelling Snowball from Animal Farm using Napoleon´s so called army. Napoleon proclaims himself as the maximum leader of the animals and decides to change things. He modifies the seven commandments till they are reduced to one: "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others". The
sunday assemblies are eliminated, because he thinks and decides for the wellbeing of the rest and the song "Beast of England" is forbidden,as he considered that the new society had already been born. While the rest of the animals feel that they are working even harder than when did for Jones before the rebellion, the pigs drink whisky, they walk in two legs and punish them, they sit at the table with humans and make deals with them.
