Fredrick Forsyth is well known for his gripping thrillers  involving international espionage, terrorism etc.  He can be grouped among the top international authors in English fiction today  with ten of his novels being bestsellers .
His latest book “The Afghan” does not disappoint . Travesting a range of countries ranging from Afghanistan, the Middle East, the U.S.A. and the U.K. , the book starts when British and American intelligence accidentally learn of a purported operation called “Al-Isra” . They know nothing about the operation , the what, where or when . They have no sources in Al Qaeda, and its impossible to plant someone unless …
The Afghan is Izmat Khan , a five-year prisoner of Guantanomo Bay and a former senior commander of the Taliban . The Afghan is also former British Colonel Mike Martin, a 25-year veteran of war zones around the world , a dark lean man born and raised in Iraq . In an attempt to stave off disaster , the intelligence agencies will try to do what no one has ever done before – pass off a westerner as an Arab among Arabs – pass off Martin as the trusted Khan .
An un-putdownable book that  grips the reader and holds his interest till the end . However there are minor glitches like when the author leaves the description of  Martin’s eyes with a dash followed by the eyes .
