Book Summary by: vahroon

Original Author: jane austen
Pride and Prejudice  whose  theme is  marriage  views  the  world from the  perspective of young female characters  representing
the genteel i.e. the upper middle class society of Great Britian of  Jane Austen"s times.
Again it  deals  with  various  types of  marriages good marriage (elizabeth and  Darcy), bad marriage(Mr  and Mrs Benneth  or Lyda and Weckham), marriage of  compromise(Mr Collins  and  lady  Lucas), or  the  schemes of  the bingely  sister  to win over Darcy is more like  the traditional inversion of  idea where  a women  tries  to win  over men  contrary to  the  norm  of  a  patriarchial set up.
The novel opens with the sentence ...."a single man with large fortune must  be  in want  of  a wife".........and  precisely  this  idea  pervades  through  the entire  novel.  Its  like  the atmosphere  of  marriage or  love  being  translated  into  marriage  provides the  background  of  the  novel...Its  between  these two major  ideas  the story  and  the  charactres  are portrayed .
