The Baudelaires went back to Briny Beach and there they met Kit Snicket. Kit Snicket., a VFD volunteeer, drove
the Baudelaires in a taxi to the Hotel Denouement. The place where all VFD volunteers will meet.
The Baudelaires enter the Hotel as concierges. Kit informed them that Frank Denouement, the hotel manager was a volunteer but his brother Ernest was a villain. In the Hotel the siblings tried their best to be flaneurs. Violet was summoned by Esme Squalor, their sixth guardian who turned out to be a Villain and became Count Olaf's girlfriend. Violet found out that Esme and Olaf were planning to have a cocktail party the same day as the VFD meeting. She also saw that Geraldine Julienne, the reporter from the Daily Punctillo who never gets the story right was interviewing Esme. Carmelita Prats (from book 5) asks for a harpoon gun of which Violet was forced to provide. Klaus meanwhile met Charles and "sir", their guardian in book 4. Klaus gathered information that they had been invited by Esme. Sunny on the other hand found out she was being summoned by Vice Principal Nero. Their Guardian in book 5. That night they met Dewey Denouement who turned out to be the third of the denouement triplets. He was a volunteer and almost after informing the Baudelaire where the secret catalogue was, J.S.arrives. J.S. proved to be Justice Strauss and Jerome squalor, who should have helped the Baudelaires before. Count Olaf sees them and creates a hostage situation where Dewey gets shot. This ensues a trial where they found out that the two members of the high court were Olaf's associates. Since they were being accused of Dewey's death, The children were forced to help Olaf escape the hotel after starting to set it on fire.
