Rose and Ruby are almost thirty and will soon be the oldest living conjoined twins in history. Their mother abandoned them at birth and they have been brought up by Lovey and Stash Darlen. Lovey was one of the nurses present at their birth.
Conjoined at the head they are known as ”The Girls” in their small town but they are two very different individuals. Rose, who loves to write poetry, decides to write her memoir and persuades Ruby to add a few chapters. This book is the story of their lives.
It is very cleverly written as two parallel stories with each twin giving a very different view of their life. You also become involved in the lives of the town folk and in particularly Aunt Lovey and Uncle Stash. I loved this book. At times I felt like weeping but at other times I was laughing. It is a real page turner.
