Calling Romeo

Book Review by: rightstuff

Original Author: Alexandra Potter
‘Calling Romeo’ is a romantic comedy about the relationship between the two central characters in the book, Juliet and her
boyfriend Will, who have lived together for more than two years, and the cracks are starting to show. This is very much a girlie book which I am sure many women reading it would be able to identify with the main female character. This is definitely not one for the blokes though.
Even though the main style of the novel is a comedy, there is also at times some sadness. It shows what can happen to a relationship when people start to take their partners for granted. The author has written this novel with just enough of a comedic element to keep you amused, but at the same time not straying too far in that direction and retaining the more serious side of the story. It shows that sometimes the person you are with really is the right one, and what can happen when people start straying out of boredom.
This is a novel I would not hesitate in recommending to any woman to read, especially if you are going on holiday. This would prove to be the perfect reading material while sunning yourself on a hot, Mediterranean beach. The novel is a light and easy read and at no time would you lose interest in, or track of, the story itself. ‘Calling Romeo’ will definitely make you laugh, possibly out loud at times, but you will also feel a sense of sadness towards the end as the problems in the relationship, coupled with the affair the main female character had, causes the break-up of the couple. I thought the very end of the book was lovely as it leaves you wondering if they really do get back together when they meet up at a wedding several months after they separate which I thought was a nice touch to the ending of the book.
As a result of reading this novel, I will definitely read other novels by Alexandra Potter.
