This book is written by Donald Piper. In this book he describes his near-death
experience. Don Piper was born in 1950. He
is a Baptist minister. The book is narrated Piper's point of view. The book contains details of his
experience in heaven in one chapter. The other chapters deal give details about his long recovery that included 34 different surgeries, and many life and spiritual lessons learnt by him along the way.
The Death Experience Donald Piper attended a conference of pastors on January 18, 1989. He was driving on a bridge while returning home from the conference. But before he could clear the bridge, a tractor-trailer crossed into his lane and hit his small Ford Escort head on. When Paramedics reached on the accident spot, they declared him dead. As per him, after his death he went to heaven where he met all his loved ones. He did not see Jesus. He also heard songs that he had never heard while he was alive.
Meanwhile on the earth, after Don’s death another Baptist minister, Dick Onrecker, came to the scene. It was more than an hour since the accident took place. Dick started praying on Don’s body while it was taken in a van. After the prayer, he started singing the hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Dick was shocked when Don suddenly began to sing along. He jumped for joy to see Don alive. After receiving medical attention, Don recovered and now has an entire ministry based around his near-death experience.
