River God

Book Review by: TelsCafe

Original Author: Wilbur smith
"River God" is a novel by Wilbur Smith, a hardback version.
The novel is a fascinating and moving story of life in
Ancient Egypt on the banks of the mighty Nile River. The setting is during the times of slavery, public executions, harems and multiple wives, immense treasure and wealth, fanatical worship of many Gods, beastly and ravaging wars, exploration and change.
The story is being told in the first person through the voice of Taita, an incredibly gifted practicing physician, architect, inventor and designer, philosopher, invaluable political and military adviser, and a poet. But he is only a eunuch slave and dedicates himself to his mistress, the beautiful Lady Lostris. Young Tanus is a distinguished warrior and close friend of both, and seeks Lostris for his wife. Interestingly, the three form a formidable and unique team in the ensuing struggle if only to save their country from ruin.
The current leader of Egypt, Pharaoh Mamose is beset with overwhelming problems mainly by his country's enemies from all sides one can think of - the black hordes of Africa in the south, the treacherous Bedouin and other races in the east and west, and the pirates in the north. Inside Egypt, Pharaoh Mamose must compete with the legions of the false Pharaoh in lower Egypt, and the Shrikes, the desert's robber barons who threaten to drive Egypt back into barbaric ways.
The novel is a magnificent saga, filled with wonderful passionate characters, exciting battles, adventurous travels, and a beautiful, enduring love. It offers a fascinating history of an awe-inspiring ancient civilization. Readers will yearn to learn more of Ancient Egypt with its many wonderful historical treasures, and who knows, perhaps be lured to travel to see the remnants of this legendary land in humankind's history.
"River God" is a masterpiece, a perfect blend of adventure, drama and romance. It is a magnificent saga full of adventures, ensuing battles, faithful love and characters that give life excitement. The conclusion is breathtaking and inspiring.
