Adam is a novel written by Ted Dekker. The story begins with a brother and sister, Alex and Jessica Price, who are kidnapped
from their home in the year 1964. The people who kidnap them are insane fanatics and follow a religion called Eve's Holy Coven. They live with the kidnappers for 16 years. During this time Alex suffers severe psychological damage. Finally they escape from there and are exposed to the real world where they try to adapt themselves slowly. Alex falls into depression. One day he brutally attacks
Jessica’s fiancé Bruce. After this incident Alex went missing and was never heard of again.
The later part of the book shows the events in 2008 where Daniel Clark a behavioral psychologist who works for the FBI is seeking a killer called Eve who kills young woman during every new moon. Eve uses a deadly new strain of meningitis for killing by injecting it into the brain of his victim. Daniel is very obsessed with this case and doesn’t have time for his wife. Because of this his wife divorces him.
Lori Ames is a pathologist and is a partner of Daniel in the case. Once on the eve of the killer's sixteenth murder, Lori and Daniel manage to save the victim from Eve. But then Eve fires back hitting Daniel on his head with the bullet and reclaiming his victim. Lori manages to save Daniel from dying but then he suffers from Amnesia. He also suffers from spastic episodes of fear every now and then.
Later Lori injects him with drugs that trick his brain and he has a dream of a young boy who claims himself to be Eve.
Then Daniel gets the news that his ex-wife
Heather has been kidnapped. So he tracks her down using the clues given to him by the boy in his dreams. He finds Heather in an abandoned tunnel; he also finds Eve and trades his life for Heather's. He gets shocked when he come to know that Eve is a supernatural spirit and possessed Alex Price and used him into killing women. Eve takes Daniel away leaving Heather behind.
Later, Heather takes the help of Father Seymour to track down Daniel but discovers that he is possessed by Eve. Father Seymour performs an exorcism on Daniel. It is also revealed that Lori is Jessica Price and she convinces her brother into letting go off Eve. The spirit leaves but almost kills Alex before disappearing.
In the end Alex is sentenced to life in prison and Jessica goes on to teach Medicine and Daniel remembers crying out to God during his ordeal.
