The Testament

Book Abstract by: Insomniac23

Original Author: John Grisham
Troy Phelan was one rich person, his estate estimated to be at eleven billion dollars. He was also one miserable, old,
and angry man. On 9 December 1996, he sat in front of his family, three ex-wives, and six children, their lawyers, and their psychiatrists. He was about to sign a will that disposed of his estate to his wives and children. They knew this; he had hinted more than once the contents of his will. Little did they know that a new will was about to be signed, one that left them practically nothing and everything to an unknown heir.
Nate O’Riley was tasked to locate Rachel Lane, the missionary-turned-billionaire daughter of Troy Phelan. Working only on an information provided by Troy, Nate scoured the jungles of Brazil to locate the suprise heir who, as hidden as she was, did not seem to want to be located. When Nate finally found her, Rachel told him something that shocked Nate and the rest of the Phelan legal team, and opened the doors for a brutal legal battle...

The first few chapters of the novel by John Grisham will propel the reader to turn the pages, if the pages have not turned voluntarily. However, when Nate O'Riley was crossing the Pantanal, I got extremely bored. The page-turning became an ordeal. The excitement wrought by a well-written first few chapters took a dramatic dip into an ennui midway through the novel. Suddenly, the legal thriller that was promised me became a book on the misadventures of Nate O'Riley in the jungles of Brazil. Skim, I'd say; otherwise, move on.
