The Washington Post and its review by Marie Arana of Orhan Pamuk's Book. "Museum of
Innocence" translated by Maureen Freely
has been blogged by Turkish Digest. Its indeed a feast of superlatives not least the comparisons made with say, Turkish Nobel Laureate for
Literature Orhan Pamuk and other great writers of interest such as F Scott Fitzgerald and "The Great Gatsby" and others.
The focus is character based according to the Review by Marie Arana and the Review specifies Kemal, as a major character plus his love nest with other less defined characters in this review being singled out for specific attention.
However some striking points the review makes on Orhan Pamuk's great work of literature "Museum of
Innocence" is a love scene in the bed with the characters and reference to Turkey's obsession with
Virginity, Film Industry, and brothels. Oddly enough in my recent visit to Istanbul I saw none of this but then I suppose I wasnt there long enough to see a lot of the literature of the period in person and it would be nice to meet up with the writers in Istanbul if possible but then I was busy writing my own book!
Apparently the writer and Nobel Laureate for Literature Orhan Pamuk describes some of the story in his book "Museum of Innocence" in terms of "patience" which the lover needs, similar to the patience of the writer . a wonderful connection, I believe! Thanks Turkish Digest and what a wonderful way to start the day .. nice work!
