The book tells the story and travils of young Nalli in her quest to become a
medical practitioner and set up a dream hospital in her native village. The training to be a doctor takes Nalli from her
village Angheri and she has to cope up with turbulent urban life. To top it all Nalli’s family has great expectations from her. Initially the city
pulls her away from her village nod ideals but not for long. Her dreams collide with reality when she discovers rampant corruption and general indifference in government hospitals.
If this is not enough then Nalli’s internal dilemmas increase when her childhood love –Jai decides to
lead a highly successful but frenetic
life in metropolitan Bombay rather than fulfill their pledge of returning to Angheri. Nalli then
learns to balance her own emotional rectince with the passion that pulls her towards two very different men.
All in all a engaging novel with straight forward narrative that moves from charms of village life to cadavers in medical school and how the lead protagonist learns the lessons of life.
