Carrion Comfort

Book Review by: Nayel_Roon

Original Author: Dan Simmons
This abstract was translated from l'échiquier du mal tome 1 & 2
Here's an excellent book writte by Dan Simmons. The less thing that could be said is that the author hold us in suspense
from the beginning to the end. The originality of this book resides in the faculty of the author to surprise us almost on each page ! Indeed, the framework of his story is steeped in a mysterious, worrying aura. We enter here in the parapsychology’s domain, on the way some beings can enter in the others’ brains and condition them. We recognize the Dan Simmons’ lively, very fluid style, which we’ve seen in another book of him called The Crook factory. We recognize here the talent of the author who don’t care to criticize the authorities, both in America and in the Old Europe. His historical references are excessively well learnt, solid, and transmitted with such a realism that we believe all he narrates. We watch here the always repeated fight of the evil forces against the good forces. The battle seems unequal at the beginning, and it’ll stay like this until the second tome. We’re caught by the story, which doesn’t hesitate to bring us on all the continent, in the deepest megalopolis’ notorious neighbourhoods, going through the Caribbean’s flare. His heros are pleasants, indeed, but stay engaging with their Don Quixote’s side ; about the evil guys, we can’t hope a worse selection of twisted spirits and unscrupulous. We talk here about the 1083 pages which rouse your curiosity up, make you spend some exciting hours. His language level keep us in the good literature’s high fields. To conclude, I’ll quote the editor who says : by reading “Carrion Comfort”, Stephen King has saluted his greater rival. What can we add, except that I wish you to meet this peerless artist and to go with him discover the hidden side of a chess.
