This book is a true eye opener. The story goes something like this , there is this old man who lived this really ordinary
life like most of us , stuck in his routine, his day to day job as a maintenance man of the local amusement park. This guy ,eddie his name is, goes on doing his regular business of fixing up ferris wheels and merry go rounds as usual, except that on this specific day, Eddie will die. He doesn't know it yet but Eddie actually lives his last few minutes on earth just as he had always done, cleaning, fixing and having lunch in Ruby Pier, When Lo and behold! A fun ride goes completely wrong and completely fatal, Eddie is struck by flying cart and loses his life.
So we lose our hero in the opening chapter but all is not lost, you see Eddie died a hero, saving a little girl in the process as already we feel this pride in him. That this ordinary man with a limp ( yes Eddie was a war veteran and badly damaged his hip in battle) ends his life so graciously. And as expevcted Eddie wakes up in the
afterlife. Now comes the
interesting part , instead of your ususal heaven and hell stuff, the afterlife (or Eddie's at lest) is a an interesting mixture of all his past experiences, choices, or lack of them, relationships and decisions.
To guide him through this process are the 5 people that affected his life and changed him forever. From loved ones to his captain in battle to complete strangers, Eddie is dragged through this strange journey, learning about his life and why everything is exactly the way it is.
