Sula

Book Review by: JustinLennonHoffman

Original Author: Toni Morrison
Sula and Nel became best of friends inthe Bottom, a small town in Ohio. They live in the black section ofthe segregated town.
Nothing could separate them: not murder, notmen, not bullies, and not Sula's grandmother. The book starts duringWorld War I and ends in the 1960s. Time elapses with each chapter.Sula leaves town for ten years. Duringthis time, Nel settles down and marries. She becomes what is expectedof her. Sula returns from her big city adventures, changed. She hasseen many things the town folk could never dream of. Things changedmost for Nel: she abandoned everything she was with Sula.Nel catches her husband and Sula in bedtogether. That is the end of her marriage and friendship. For years,Nel is lost and lonely. Sula dies before she can realize that whatshe missed after the affair was not her husband. She had missed Sula;she missed her even before she married. But things change and thetown is becoming a golf course.Processing data, please wait ...
