A young Spanish shepard boy named Santiago was told by a gypsy that he would find a great
treasure buried near the Egyptian
Pyramids. He was a happy, contented young man, yet decided to set out on the long journey. This book has to do with
following that which you were meant to do in life. Throughout life, people often give up on their dreams. Santiago decided not to give up on his dream. He hadn''t travelled far before he was tricked out of all of his money causing him to think about going back home. He got a job working for a crystal merchant, trying to save enough money to get back home. After a year, he had enough money to return to Spain to buy more sheep, then he remembered the words of the "old king", an old man who told him to "follow the omens" and to "never stop dreaming". He decided at the last minute to go with a caravan through the desert to continue his search for the
treasure. He had many hardships through the desert, and had to be creative and use his intellect and talents to survive. Finally he made it to the Pyramids only to discover the treasure to be something different than he had thought.
