Sajnan Samadhi’—The Conscious Trance “Nothingness is
Real Substance” by Ma-Mahajnan, Tr. Asokananda Prosad. What is mind? Wherein it is located? What
elements is it made up of? –we are fairly riddled with questions such as these. Not only are metaphysicians but scientists, too. So many complex questions have therefore to remain satisfied with hypothetical answers for want of anything better. The Transcendent Mother avers, “Mind is nothing else but nerve impulses”. Now the scientist finds firm ground under his feet if only he can get hold of a bit of fact. “The brain is the head office” with a
view like this all the scientists are sure to agree. The intellectual owes all the success he has to the brain. The Mother divides the
mind into four elements—woody-stalk, water, fire and air. We shall get to know ourselves within our hearts by assessing each of these elements. The scientist has no disagreement with this view-point, too. But who, indeed, is capable of
realizing the true nature of the Inner Mind?
Of course, omniscience or knowing everything means knowing little. What we are required to do is to cross intractable stretches of desert one after another. Yes, here you will get both the way to be traversed and the wherewithal to do it. The nervous system covers the entire body and mind. In that context we have the marvelous addition of the piece—“The
Vacant Mind”. “The Vacant Mind” is of course, a
chapter specifically meant for the spiritual seeker. Boundless is its doctrinal worth. Both mind and “The Vacant Mind” are interwoven with each other. The chapter on vacant mind is indispensable for realizing the existence of God, that is to say, of truth and knowledge. From that angle, the piece Nothingness is Real Substance is truly significant and is an extraordinary philosophical treatise. No. of words - 306
