The Bride of Lammermoor

Book Review by: TelsCafe

Original Author: SIR WALTER SCOTT
"The Bride of Lammermoor" is a tragic novel by Sir Walter Scott. It's the third part in the series of Tales of My Landlord.

The plot is simple. It's about the unhappy and tragic love of the Master of Ravenswood for Lucy Ashton, daughter of a family with whom he has an inherited feud.
Lady Ashton, Lucy's mother, opposes the romance and tricks her daughter into marriage with the Laird of Bucklaw by convincing her that Ravenswood has abandoned her. He returns after the wedding to demand vengeance.
As the plot ensues, Lucy becomes insane and stabs her husband.
The Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti used the story as a basis for his successful opera, Lucia di Lammermoor (1835), in which the Australian opera soprano Dame Joan Sutherland is famous for in the title role.  Refer to the opera link .
