Hay Fever is a comedy play by English actor and dramatist Noel Coward. It was first performed at the Ambassadors Theatre,
London, in 1925.
The play is hilarious, typical of Sir Coward's play. It focuses on an eccentric family, the Bliss, with two children. The wife is a retired actress but can't let go acting, and continues to act in her private life.
The plot
starts with a brilliant account of a weekend at the home of the Bliss family when the four of them invite
guests to stay with them. The trouble is they did not tell each other.
This is where the real fun begins in the Bliss household. The bewildered guests, subjected to the Bliss version of bickering hospitality, have had enough. They creep away at a breakfast on the second day, leaving the Bliss family. But they didn't even notice the guests' departure. Naturally! The Bliss family is busy arguing about the exact topography of Paris. Funny and witty.
