A PARTING

Book Review by: khady786

Original Author: Gordon Bottomley
its  a story about a daughter and a mother who r going to part from each other.because being a single mother she is
really worried about the feature of her daughter so she wishes to send the daughter far away from her home on the proposal put forth for Juliet (daughter) by her friend.   The main theme of the play is " separation''....separation of a mother from her daughter. But this parting is associated with loneliness and isolation.Juliet the daughter does not like to leave her mother alone. The mother is ready to sacrifice the comfort of her life. She desires for a better future for her daughter .But the daughter understands the depth of her situation,She is aware of this fact that her mother cannot face the liabilities of life all alone after her expected parting. Both the mother and the daughter don''t like parting.Still they are forced by fate to depart. The mother is sacrificing for the future of her daughter. The daughter is obedient girl. Her parting will take her to his finance but at the same time she is sorrowful because her old mother would remain alone.Bottomely is apt and correct when he dwells on "old unhappy, far of things".He presents the problem of modern men in highly simple style Separation and loneliness are essentially modern problems.A modern man is the sufferer so far as his hard problems are conaerened.  The tone of the play is serious and serene. The dialogues are very simple .the form of play is quite suitable to the theme.Parting of the human being is such an imaginative theme that it could have not been expressed more explicitly in any other form.
