This is a short, one-act play
written by the author when he was only eighteen (18)
years old. It is about, essentially,
the changes that come with the transition from
adolescence and high school, to adulthood and its responsibilities and choices. The
three young men who are the main characters have been close friends since
childhood. They are talking about their plans for the future, as well as about good times
from the past, as they smoke some marijuana and drink some beer and whiskey.
One boy is married to his high school sweetheart, with a baby on the way. One boy is
going off to Princeton University. One boy is working at a butcher shop until something
better comes along. They discuss these things, as well as their girlfriends, the future
they once foresaw, and what is happening at the time, and what they can plan.
As they speak, one can see their past closeness and how they are growing apart as
the demands of work, school, family and class begin to change their lives and their
mutual understanding.
This play was a winner at the Young Playwrights
Festival.
