These are poems of exquisite beauty--translated by a gifted poet translating these gifts of inspiration from God. The mystic, the poet, and the saint--and God--combine to joyfully display, in poems beyond even simple beauty (although that is there), celebrating  the Beauty everywhere present, and the love of GOD, whose Name is closer to LOVE than anything else man can conceive of, believe, or experience.

These poems come from many traditions, many centuries, many places, many ways, many faiths, from men and women, old and young, and the old who became young again in the love of God. There are translations of poems by Rabia, St. Francis of Assisi, Rumi, St. Thomas Aquinas, Hafiz, St. Catherine of Siena, Kabir, Mira, St. Theresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, and Tukaram. There is also a general introduction, an explanation of the genesis of these poems, and, at the end, a list of works consulted, an index of the poems by titles and an index of first lines. Each of the authors has a short introduction before their works'' section in the book, giving a brief biographical sketch and an analysis of their works in a very gentle way. These and the bibliography alone are worth the cost of the book.  If there were only one book (besides Holy Scripture) you could read, it should be THIS one.
