Charity work is all the rage and again I have had a long discussion with our local
Fish and Chip Man who is Portuguese and doesnt like Mondays but simply
loves Sir Bob Geldof ... I spent a good 20 minutes in excellent conversation
English with Mr. Portugal and agreed that I do like Mondays as life is too
short to complain to either me the teaching profession or God about one
day in the week ... he said he always enjoys the weekends ... but then
I said he has more in common with Sir Bob Geldof than with me ...
that Sir Bob and his former band The Boom Town Rats started singing
years ago when I was a mere Head of Department ... I dont like
Mondays and I wish to shoot everyone down ... I didnt like the song
then and I still dont - I replied to my Portuguese friend. I hate the
terror of threats to good teachers like myself who give their time
and energy that the world and the learning young and not so young
might enjoy a better place ... we might live in the light of enlightenment!
Well back to my Vienna Notebook - I took a lot from my Portuguese
friend and still do in terms of who is the favourite Rock Star ... I have
rarely strayed from the path of The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Bob
Dylan, and last but not least Van Morrison ... I hold to them like
a hymnal and recently have added to this canonical book known
as the Vienna Notebook a new recruit called Robbie Williams ... I
was positively "over the moon" at Vienna
Airport when the piped
music at the airport in the waiting section of the departure lounge
plays /Robbie Williams/ and its the same when I lived in my villa
in Ireland ... I was joyous when the Where are you now Programme on
BBC Radio played Robbie''s songs .. so much so that I was
horrified to find that the house next door to mine was /on fire/ and it had
been set alight by arsonists .. and my house got badly
burnt as a result ... but had
I not been listening to Robbie Williams on the Radio on the Where Are you Now?
programme I might have been burnt to death as I probably would have gone to
bed late afternoon as I at that point was on 24 hour call ... with my tenants
coming and going with a frequency of jet planes in and out of San Francisco
Airport ... wasnt I a "lucky lady" ...
Wonderfully well written notes on odds and sods in my Vienna Notebook but I
must add that much of the writing is actually written at Vienna Airport in
Austria sometime ago ... excellent stuff ...
