Mujer, desnudez y palabras. Antología de Desmitificadoras Guatemaltecas

Book Review by: dikterion

Original Author: Luz Méndez de la Vega
An essential work to know poetry wrote by women in Guatemala. This is not an common Anthology. It has a particular and obvious
point of view: to rescue the work of women that are not confined by the traditional canon and that are breaking the usual and good mannered way of behavior in women literature. The book is divided in three parts. In the first one appear the elder: really important names in Guatemala literature, like Alaíde Foppa, who was vanished during general Romeo Lucas García''s dictatorship, in 1980, or Isabel de los Ángeles Ruano, who received “Miguel Ángel Asturias” award, the most important literature recognition that Guatemala government gives to writers. The second part presents the women that had Publisher their books between 1984 and 2002. One of the most remarkable is Dina Posada, who was born in El Salvador, but is a Guatemala citizen. The third part, “The last ones”, “Las Últimas” as the author named them, gathers the most recent generation of women writers. Luz Méndez de la Vega has a long career on Guatemala Academia. Art critic, journalist, she obtained a Ph. D. in Literature from San Carlos University, in Guatemala, and Central University of Madrid.
