is my third
collection of poems, following on from the book Dreams Take Flight and the audio CD Bard For Life (both now out of print). This collection can be read independently though. Many of my poems have appeared in magazines and books over several years. A list is online at my website www.arthurchappell.clara.net/publications.htm this collection presents completely fresh material. Here are poems about the nightmare that is a late night bus ride through South Manchester, (Slow Bus To Stockport), a less realistic horror story in verse, Doctor Of The Night, tells of a hospital where the patients are already dead, or at best, undead. Wetlook offers a complete contrast, as a man gets his long-standing sexual desires and fantasies fulfilled in the bathtub and beyond. That poem, and a few others are just for grown ups, but Toothache and Day Trip could be read to younger audiences. Toothache is a simple amusing trip to the dentists, while Day Trip recalls a journey to the seaside in all its excitement and nostalgia. Demon Dog is a true story about a dog that fought for the King’s cause in the English Civil War, That’s The Way To Do It tells of a Punch And Judy Man abducted by aliens. The toughest poem to write was No Drop Of E, about what happens when the most popular letter of the alphabet goes missing. A mirror, which was easier to write, is about a werewolf in a fairground fun house. Trying to write the first half of that without the letter E was a real pain. I hope reading it is by contrast, a real pleasure for you. 27 pages, 6" x 9", saddle-stitch binding, cream interior paper (60# weight), black and white interior ink, white exterior paper (100# weight), full-colour exterior ink
