The Runner
... introduced to me the other evening at a meeting of minds at the local Kebab House cum Chip Shop where the Postal Workers, and authors were eating out in Southampton .. and the Postal Workers started name dropping ... thus ... Someone has done a /runner/true ...
Kornelijus Platelis born in Siauliai ... was an officer in the soviet Army from 1975 1988 an engineer freelance writer ... and Editor in chief of Literatura ir menas ... Chair of Lithuanian PEN Centre ... translated : Heaney, Pound, Eliot, Milosz into Lithuanian .. His poem "The Runner" is full of creative images of an anxious style ... the poetic fog he refers to envelopes his reasoning .. ..he describes the wind as "anxious" and "passionate!" Blossoming of blood is Yours ........ and refers to the central theme of a woman whose thighs he likes ... as "peaches ripening in the sun" ... the "naphthalene" generates a cosmic motion which is interspersed with realism at least in this country of the King ..
"The King waits" ... Entrez ... "Blued fingertips penetrate the white skin" "It isa royal cold. Entrez" and "The King crosses the threshold" brings the poem title/Runner to a fine conclusion ...
Kornelijus Platelis has another poem which attracted my attention .. on the theme of "War" .title/Wars Beginning........... the poem commences with the line /war's beginning/ the implied irony of /every war is beautiful/ /snappy uniforms/ but the poet completes his ironic commentary by his insistence upon the word /beginning/ he leaves the ending to your imagination .. excellent work!
