The Seven Stages

Book Review   by:buta     Original Author: William Shakespeare
ª

In this poem, Shakespeare compares the life to a drama, in which a person plays many parts as he or she progresses through. His acts may be divided into seven ages from infancy to senility. From mewling and puking in his nurse’s hand the human baby grows into a whining school boy. From a school boy he becomes a fine young man, who is full of passion. As he attains maturity, he develops into a man of the world and shoulders responsibilities accordingly. As he matures his physical appearance also changes. He develops a paunch. He sports fashionable beard. But after this stage comes his old age. In this stage he becomes weak, his memory fades, his skin wrinkles and he heads towards the next stage, the last stage i.e. senility marks the beginning of the second childhood
