Poetry for Earth

Book Review by: CatherineGallagher

Original Author: Adrienne Adams (Selected and illustrated by)
This is a beautiful book of poetry and drawings. The poems are written by many of the greatest and most famous of poets across
the centuries, and by some, also, who are not so well-known. The author has chosen, and then painted, beautiful illustrations for each poem. The poems are about the natural world and its inhabitants, from snakes to buffaloes, from the moon to the sun to the sea. Yet these have, as often as not, a magical quality. Some of the most famous of poems are here: Robert Frost's "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening"; "The Eagle" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson; "A Narrow Fellow in the Grass" by Emily Dickinson are but three of these. There are many more not so famous; perhaps they should be. This book has many poems that are wonderful for children, and pictures that will delight them -- and the child in the adult, as well.
