THE CASTLE IN THE FOREST

Book Review by: Baker

Original Author: norman mailer
This abstract was translated from הארמון שביער - THE CASTLE IN THE FOREST
Who was Adolf Hitler?
Many writers tried to answer that question over 60 years. However, after thousands biographies, historical
stories and romances were written, movies were shown, still the main questions are: how can one explain Hitlers hate? what is its origin? will the history repeat itself?
Norman Mailer, in his book, gives answers to these questions and other crucial sides in Hitlers personality.
This romance was written in a way that forces us to read it. The content spreads over three generations and a hundred years of history. It revives the Hitlers - the grandfathers and the grandmothers, the parents, aunts and uncles, brothers and mostly young Adolf Hitler, by describing a vigorous, entertaining family saga. Mailer reveals marriage life, forbidden sex life, alienating, suffering, deaths untill... the baby Adolf comes to the world in 1869.
The story is being given to us by unknown (and unreliable) teller. In mischievous and nevertheless deep romance, Mailer mixes facts and imagination together, to an exciting family story which will bring its reader to a new examine of his prejudices about Hitler and nature of evil.
