Afraid
The Duke of Darlington, who was famous among his high circle with the name of the Dasher, once stopped at his cousin’s place and found him beating his daughter cruelly. He saved the child from him and as the head of the family took her in his guardianship. He then sent the terrified girl to a convent in the Paris and ordered his manager to take good care of the girl in every respect. Afterwards, he forgot about her. He was extremely busy in his activities like hoarse-races and love – affairs with number of ladies.
One day his manager informed him about the condition of his ward who was now 18 years old and the heiress of a large fortune. Some men were up to disturb her in the convent. After hearing this the Duke feels it inevitable to bring his ward back. So, he set out for Paris. Until then, he just had the memory of a skinny unattractive child. But here the ugly duckling turned into swan. Delicate though was she, but at the same time a symbol of pure and unique beauty. 
The mother superior informed him about a phobia of the girl .Felica Darle was afraid of men and unconsciously identified all men with her father. However, she did not seem terrified of the Duke. Because, she had pleasant memory about him that he had saved her from miserable life and always called him St. George. The Duke helped her in every way to regain her confidence and introduce her in the society. On the other hand, he found her quite different and intelligent than the other women he met. Meanwhile, the opportunists, who were in fact her cousins and was before her for the sake of her money. One of them was Denis Arlens who even tried to abduct her but the Duke again saved her. One day, when the Duke was up to visit the king, Denis entered in the house along with a Parson and forcibly make Felica to marry him otherwise he would kill the Duke. Fortunately the Duke returned back soon due to some need and found Felica in trouble. But at this moment, Felica saved him by pushing Arlens when he was aiming at the Duke with his pistol. Because of this horrible incident Felica discovered happily that she was no longer terrified of men. She falls deeply in love with the Duke and the Duke also responds most eagerly because he was equally in love with her. They decided to marry soon after retuning to England.
