This book is a
uniquely written observation on the
different manifestations of love. Twelve year old Nikhil Figgis sits bewildered in America as his mother Sushima tells him a secret. The father he presumed dead for all these years is alive in India, a part of a past that Sushima has escaped from and does not want Nikhil to know about. That is why when five years later Nikhil comes across a tattered copy of a
novel "georgetown", written by his father S.K.Naidu, he cannot defy his mother''s wishes and hence must abstain from reaching out to his
lost relation.
It''s only after Sushima''s death in the World Trade Center crash that Nikhil can finally realise his wish. Armed with a stage adaptation of his father''s novel , and hopes of a joyful reconciliation Nikhil travels to India, knowing little that this would be the journey that would change him forever.He encounters some strange people and stranger are his experiences in the land of his mother''s birth.His luggage gets lost, he is mistaken for a terrorist, a crocodile tuns up in his hotel room and worst of all his reclusive father refuses to accept him. Apu, the beautiful private hand that Nikhil hires to track his father ,attracts him but to make things a wee bit more complicated ,she is on her way to get married after enduring a failed romance.India turns out to be the nightmare Sushima had never warned him about! but between all the confusion , Nikhil manages to find a way to his father''s heart and also find out his own roots....
The book has an ease of language and the author''s style of expressing each character''s thoughts make it a highly nuanced piece.The humour is palpable , the emotions are heartfelt and the end is left to the reader''s imagination to be filled with the colours of
love they admire most!
